This was Hume's first home match at this venue after the ground was given the all clear by the Football Federation of Victoria. How it was passed was a matter of discussion by the supporters who ventured there. The opening 20 minutes was a dour period with neither side able to come to grips with the conditions. It was central defender Michael Sacks who came closest to opening the scoring for the Georgies after 14 minutes. The tall defender got onto the end of a Barry Devlin free kick but his header hit the side netting. Sunshine's defence looked slow and hesitant early in the game with Hume defender Phil Riccobene easily getting behind the Georgie defence, but his cross was cleared by Chris Konstas. Georgie defender Luke Grounds intercepted a Hume move to set up Stuart Nicholson but his shot from a tight angle was cleared by the two Hume defenders. The rebound fell to Gary Greenhill but he was quickly closed down before getting a shot at goal. The Georgies were on top in the first half using free kicks effectively that caused the Hume defence some many moments. Goalkeeper Martin John also used the wind at his back to full advantage creating several openings that weren't capitalised upon. Barry Devlin was next to test Hume's defence but his shot was cleared off the line. The home team's attacks were rare but Richard Cardozo always appeared capable of causing problems. The Georgies continued to rule in midfield where Barry Devlin intercepted a pass to sent Stuart Nicholson in on goal, but his shot along the ground didn't cause Hume's keeper Lou Acevski too many problems. Nicholson was on the attack once again when forcing another save from Lou Acevski. Next to fritter a golden chance was George Papdopoulos whose shot missed the target after getting on to the end of a beautiful diagonal long ball by Fidell Richards. Georgie defender Douglas Cameron gave away a free kick just outside the penalty area which Richard Cardozo took quickly. Martin John was alert to the situation and saved easily. The second half saw Hume on the attack with Barry Devlin giving away a silly free kick that almost produced the opening goal. The ball fell to Richard Cardozo and his first time shot looked goal bound until Martin John produced the save of the match. From the resultant corner George Papadopoulos was on the line to prevent a Zoran Petrevski header going in. It didn't take long after the break for Hume to make the all important break through following a long throw-in. The ball fell to the clever Richard Cardozo who smashed a first time shot high into the corner of the net. Stuart Nicholson intercepted a Hume City move, but lost his way going forward when giving the ball away to set Hume City on the attack. It took another Martin John save that rescued the Georgies. Coach Andy O'Dell replaced the hard working Barry Devlin and captain Fidell Richards with Steven Beck and James Blackburn. The substitutions couldn't prevent Hume City from going further ahead after 64 minutes when Zoran Petrevski out muscled the Georgie defence to make it 2-0. Hume City made it 3-0 after 67 minutes when a long hopeful pass from Richard Cardozo deceived everyone including goalkeeper Martin John as the ball trickled into the empty net. The Georgies refused to concede and pulled a goal back after 76 minutes when substitute Matthew Cini set up James Blackburn. His perfect centre was bravely headed home by Stuart Nicholson to make it 3-1. Sunshine George Cross made it 3-2 in injury time when a brilliant run and centre by Stuart Nicholson saw George Papadopoulos head the ball home. Unfortunately for the visitors there was not enough time to stage what would have been a remarkable comeback with the referee blowing full time not long after this goal.

Under 21's: HUME CITY 2 SUNSHINE GEORGE CROSS 3

Goal Scorers: Andrew Nabbout 2, Daniel Sweeney 1.

Our youngsters had to pull out all stops to overcome the more physically stronger Hume City side. After going to a 2-0 lead, the Georgies conceded a goal on the stroke of half time. This inspired the home team and with the wind at their backs in the second half Hume was in pole position. They grabbed an equaliser midway through the second half from the penalty spot and it was anyones game. The Georgies lifted to finish the stronger and scored the winner from Andrew Nabbout who grabbed his second for the afternoon. This was a fine team effort from our youngsters that augers well for the future.
