The Sunshine Georgies could not shake off the poor run of results, going down once again, 1-2 to Hume City. This was the 6th consecutive defeat for Sunshine, and the possibility of relegation has now become very serious for the club. The win was a welcome relief for Hume City after a turbulent week that not only saw them lose to Melbourne Knights, but also have 3 players sent from the field. Even without the suspended Lupce Asevski, Ross Thompson and Isiyan Erdogan, it the visitors who began on the front foot and scored after only 4 minutes. Midfield general Richard Cardoza found space inside the 6 yard box to place a well flighted cross from Andy Vlahos into the corner of the net. Sunshine were almost on level term within a minute when a cross from the right by Ben Cogger found Douglas Cameron unmarked at the far post. The George Cross full back shot from a narrow angle, but Hume's keeper Mario Roza managed to deflect the ball to safety. With a howling wind at their backs Hume preceded to dominate for the remainder of the first half. Sunshine rarely threatened against the wind with Hume taking control with slick on the ground passing. After 19 minutes Andy Vlahos set up Steven Pace whose shot from 30 metres skimmed the cross-bar. A few minute later Hume other central defender Tansel Baser had Martin John diving full length deflecting a low drive for a corner. Sunshine keeper was kept busy saving several shots and turning dangerous ball around the post for numerous corners. Every Richard Cardozo's corner kick created danger with the well flighted balls dropping into the danger zone. Hume went 2-0 up after 29 minutes with a comical goal that several George Cross defenders could not clear. A partially cleared attempt fell to Hume central defender Steven Pace, who was allowed time to turn and shoot low past a number of Georgie defenders to Zoran Petrevski who made no mistake from one metre out. Sunshine George Cross came more into the game in the latter stages of the first half forcing Hume's keeper Mario Roza into action, but it was Hume who finished the stronger with a long range shot from Duko Delic that sailed just over the cross-bar, and Aziz Behich finding Andy Vlahos whose header was saved by Martin John. At the other end a free kick by Andrew Bourakis found Andrew Nabbout at the far post, but his shot hit the side netting. With the wind at the their backs, the Georgies began the second half on the attack with Ben Cogger looking lively on the wing. Shaun Romein tested his luck with a long drive that forced Mario Roza in to turning the ball around the post. It was now Hume City's turn to defend with the Georgies forcing several corners. James Blackburn got on the end of an in swinging corner but his header went over the bar. The Georgies kept attacking and came desperately close to an equaliser when a Douglas Cameron corner eluded a pack of players and struck to upright. This was repeated from another corner a few minutes later from the other side with the ball bouncing on the junction of the posts. It took a long range drive from defender Barry Devlin to reduce the arrears after 72 minutes and another goal was on the cards with Sunshine throwing everything in attack. This left a few gaps in Sunshine George Cross defence and Hume almost capitalised with break away moves. It took two desperate Martin John's efforts that denied Hume from going further ahead. James Blackburn's high pass to Douglas Cameron put him within sight of the goal, but he missed the ball completely with his attempted volley. Despite piling on the pressure and forcing several corners, there was to be no late drama, as Hume held on to take their first 3 points since round 10. In a game of two halves, Hume managed to take 2 of their chances while the Georgies could only manage 1.

UNDER 21: SUNSHINE GEORGE CROSS 0 HUME CITY 7. Never have we seen such a poor under 21 side as at the moment. The players in this team have proven they are not good enough at this level and major changes are needed to be made to restore some respectability.
