It was another bad day at the office on Monday night when a try hard Sunshine George Cross side lost 1-0 to table topping Richmond. A solitary goal by Davey Vant Schip after 33 minutes was enough to send the Georgies crashing to their 8th successive defeat. In a game of few chances Richmond was the more composed side during this match with match winners in former A League player Michael Ferranti and captain Dimitri Tsiaris pulling the strings in midfield. Sunshine made changes with Chris Konstas and Shaun Romein being dropped, while Leo Shin started his first game. Also coming back into the team was Evan Christodoulou who started his first game since round 13 following a long lay off with an ankle injury. The Georgies began the match on the attack and looked lively in the opening 10 minutes. Half a chance fell to Fidell Richards and James Blackburn had his shot on goal blocked by a Richmond defender’s foot. Martin John was the first goalkeeper called into action when he had to save a header from Jesse Krncevic. Martin John was in the thick of the action a few minutes later when a corner kick eluded a pack of players, forcing him to dive on the ball to save the situation. The visitor settled down well and strung together a series of passes without creating any havoc for the Cross. Half chances at both ends followed, but defenders were well on top until the 34 minute mark when Andrew Viola found space on the left flank and crossed to Davey Vant Schip, whose toe poked shot found the corner of the net. Douglas Cameron got on the end of a Ben Cogger centre, but shot well wide off the mark. Both keepers were having an easy time as the game developed into a battle for midfield supremacy. Sunshine was dealt a blow just before the break when Evan Christodoulou was tackled by Antun Kovacic after he crossed the ball. The injury forced him to be replaced at half time. Fidell Richards was caught in possession in his own half that gave Jesse Krncevic an opportunity to double Richmond's lead. His shot forced Martin John into two attempts to save. The match continued in a similar pattern in the second half, but the Georgies blew a great chance just after the break when Fidell Richards won possession and ran at the Richmond defence. It was two on one, with Blackburn running along side on Richard's left. Richards was unable to get his pass through with Kovacic Intercepting to save the danger for Richmond. The visitors continued to dominate the ball, but the game took a different complexion when Andrew Nabbout replaced Andrew Bourakis after 62 minutes. The Georgies came more into the game with Leo Shin and Andrew Nabbout combining well on the right wing. Chances however were hard to come by, but the Richmond's keeper was forced into a hasty kick out clearance after some confusing at the back. Fidell Richards made a good run down the grandstand side and provided a great cross field pass to Andrew Nabbout, who shot over the cross bar from close range. Richards appeared to find extra energy after looking a spent force. His superb pass found Douglas Cameron who beat two opponents before presenting substitute Tex Apostalikos with an opportunity to draw his side level. Apostalikos' effort from inside the penalty area lacked conviction. The Georgies again had once matched it with another top team, but once again our team was found wanting in the scoring department. Fidel Richards played a captain's game with Leo Shin doing well in his first start. At the back Craig Sweeney put in a stellar effort and was man of the match.

Under 21's: SUNSHINE GEORGE CROSS 0 RICHMOND 5

Richmond was far too superior in very department to over run Sunshine George Cross 5-0. The visitors ran up a match winning 4 -0 lead by half time and took their foot off the pedal in the second half. The Georgeis tried but were never in it against a side who took no prisoners.
